We, the Community Arts Council of Richmond (CACR), would like to recognize the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond BC for their generous donation to support the arts in the community in which they operate.
It has been a very difficult time for the CACR. Cutbacks in funding for the arts by governments have caused other sources of funding to become scarce. So it was a surprise when we received a phone call telling us that we had been chosen by the River Rock Casino Resort as a recipient for one of the many donations they make to non profit groups throughout the year. 
This comes at a time when funding is desperately needed to continue the valuable work that we have done for over 40 years and continue to this day. We support the "little" guy, the emerging artists, the disabled artist, the mature artist, and others who would normally be left out because they are not yet professionals.
One often hears what the River Rock Casino Resort does not do right, well now here is something that they absolutely do right! They give large donations to Variety the Children’s Charity, Hospitals and the like, but rarely get publicity for giving to the "little" charities. They do this all the time and we are most grateful for their support and contribution to allow us, through our Artisans’ Galleria in Garden City Shopping Centre location, to continue to support the arts and artists in Richmond.
This unsolicited type of donation is a rare thing these days, and needs to be celebrated and publicized, so that other Corporations may do their part to be a good corporate citizen too and help non-profit groups in the areas where they operate.
So a big thank you to the River Rock Casino Resort from the bottom of our hearts! The arts community in Richmond thanks you – big time!
